Patient quotes provided for Eating Disorder Awareness Week:
If I were to talk to myself back then, I’d say that fear is your strongest asset; sometimes, the anxiety can drive you further and take you on journeys that you never thought you’d be able to go on. If it was going to be easy, everyone would manage recovery. They don’t. Make yourself one of those who do.
Having an eating disorder is like having two versions of yourself, a sensible you and an anorexic you. Never allow your sensible self to be defeated by the anorexic thoughts and to change the way you believe in yourself… it’s very deep but I feel like it sums up how it caused me to change and if I’d known that it caused a second version of me, I think I would have been able to admit to having it earlier on.
